 Thomas Pradzynski

Thomas Pradzynski's paintings of city streets are often referred to as "realistic". As an artistic category, realism describes work which reproduces the three-dimensional world into a two-dimensional surface. This does not, however, imply a mechanical reproduction onto the canvas. Rather, the scene is interpreted and modified by the artist's subjectivity. Photo realism is a style that reveals more than the naked eye would ordinarily see. By filling the canvas with more subject matter than could normally be perceived at once, the artist takes on the perspective of the camera. Pradzynski falls into both categories on a technical level, but his work embodies much more. The "realism" of his weathered buildings and inanimate objects offers a unique insight into the life of a city, approaching the level of myth - an apparent reality which only exists on Pradzynski's works.
