Simon’s creative vision originated from a childhood filled with both inspiration and contrast. From the stark monochromes of an English boarding school, to the rich tropical rainforests of his family home in South Africa, Simon was absorbed with colour and light early on. When the family moved to Hong Kong, the young artist encountered the beauty of Chinese brushwork and its economy of line and energy of composition, which would prove to leave a lasting impression on him. It was here, at age eighteen, that Simon had his first one-man exhibition.

Continuing his studies in England, Simon was able to familiarize himself with some of the world’s great art collections and attend a wide range of exhibitions. Throughout his early period, Simon painted the world he’d seen, however, as time passed and he matured as an artist, as deeper currents began to pull at him. He moved away from painting outward things and towards expressing inner thoughts, feelings and emotions. The colours and imagery became the means of conveying the viewer into a different world. He has since become world famous for his rich and vibrant style.

In 1997 and in 2000, Simon was short listed for England’s most prestigious art awards; winning outright the Artist’s Print Award for the UK’s best selling artist printmaker and being short listed for the Published Artists Award, the first time any British artist has been short listed for the two awards. His international acclaim continues to grow and in June of 2004, Simon Bull won the NALED Print of the year award for his absolutely stunning piece, “ The Journey never Ends.”

Simon was also the official artist of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. His work is in major museums and private collections around the world including the British Royal family, the president of Italy, the Bank of England and the McDonald’s corporation.
